WELCOME TO THE C.O.A.S.T. PUBLIC DOMAIN DISK TUTORIAL VOL.A
Your disk contains three programs and some picture files for
you to use.
First we will discuss EFFECTS.PRG.
This program is usable by any slide or picture labeled with .PIC.
Just double click on the program icon, and enjoy. Effects is
only usable in low resolution.
The next program is DRDOODLE.PRG
This is the most recent version of Digital Research's paint
program. Dr. Doodle will work in any of the three screen
resolutions. When the program is run, you will see the Dr.
Doodle window, and your screen pointer. To draw, just hold down
the left mouse button, and drag the pointer across the screen.
To select a different color, point your marker to the drop down
menu marked "COLOR", when the menu appears, click on the color
that you wish to draw in, and exit the menu. You may also choose
from different pen sizes. To do this, go to the menu marked
"OPTIONS", choose "PEN/ERASER...", and choose a pen size. There
are also erasers to choose from on the "PEN/ERASER.." selection,
they can be selected in the same fashion as the pens. If you
desire to erase the entire picture, the "OPTIONS" menu has an
option called "ERASE PICTURE", just click on that.
To Save a picture with DR. Doodle, go to the menu marked
"FILE", choose "SAVE AS..", enter the name that you wish to call
your picture, and click on "SAVE". Likewise to load a previously
saved picture, go to "FILE", and select "LOAD". When the
directory comes up, double click on the picture of your choice,
and the picture will load. To Quit, "FILE" has an option called
"QUIT", just click on that.
The last of the three programs on this disk is "NEOCHROME",
or NEO for short. Neo only works in low resolution. When you
are in the program, the bottom half of the screen should be the
control panel, this is where all of your commands will be
activated.
At the top of the control panel you will see 16 colors to
choose from ( one is black ), these are your 16 usable colors.
To select a pencil color, go to one of the colors and press the
left mouse button. You should see a marker below the color you
selected. Now anything that you draw on the top half of the
screen will be drawn in the color indicated by the marker. To
change the 16 available colors, go down to the multi-color box in
the lower-center of the screen, select the color that you want,
and double click on it with the left button. You should see the
color with the marker (one of the available 16) changed to the
new color that you have selected. To view all of the 512
possible colors, go to the multi-color box, and hold down the
right button, while moving the mouse from left to right. Now all
512 colors are at your fingertips!!! Colors can also be changed
by adjusting the palate in the normal fashion. You should see a
color, and a 3-digit number on the right side of the control
panel, by changing this number, you can change the palte. The
right button lowers the numbers on the palate, and the left
button raises them.
Now you are ready to draw. Select the pencil on the control
panel and click on it with the right mouse button. The pencil
square should now be reverse color. Go up to the top half of the
screen, and hold down the left mouse button while dragging the
pointer. The right button works the same way, except it erases.
To select the eraser, go to the eraser box, and click on it
with the left button. Now you can go to the top half of the
screen, and erase parts of your picture with the left button.
You can erase all of the picture on the screen by double clicking
on the eraser.
There is also a straight line function. This works by
clicking on the line box, going to the line starting point,
holding down the button, and going to the lines destination.
Releasing the button at this time will reveal a perfectly
straight line. By using the right button, you can get a
multi-color line.
Other functions include:
the paint can-fills in any background color with a new color
the spray can-gives a sprayedon look to your drawings.
the paint brush-similar to the pencil, except with multiple brush
shapes to choose from.
the copy box-to move, copy or earse an object
the hand-to work on the other half of the picture
To save a picture on disk, go to the disk box, and press the
left button.
To load a picture, go to the disk box, and press the right
button. You should now see a disk directory of all the picture
files on the disk. Double click on your choice and the picture
will load.
To view the entire picture, go to the tall, thin box on the
left, marked "FULL SCREEN". To get the control panel back, go to
any of the corners of the screen, and press the left button. To
print any picture, go to the full screen, hide your pointer, and
press ALTERNATE and HELP simultaneously.
There are some special functions to neo that I will not go
into, but if you experiment, you should discover them.
